The Pacific Canada Heritage Centre – Museum of Migration Society (PCHC-MoM) is a non-profit charitable society located on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh peoples. These nations have cared for these lands since time immemorial and we are deeply grateful for the opportunity to be welcomed to live and work here.

Celebrating Stories of Migration in Pacific Canada

PCHC-MoM is dedicated to collecting, preserving, and sharing the rich migration and intercultural stories of people and communities in Pacific Canada.  Through digital storytelling, community programming, and educational initiatives to ensure a comprehensive history, we aim to celebrate diversity, promote understanding, and contribute to building a more inclusive society.

Programs and Events

PCHC-MoM operates like a hub extending its reach into communities through a variety of online, in-person or “on the road” programs.

Online

Our online events include webinars such as Family History From a Distance featuring Professor Henry Yu, co-hosted with UBC’s ACAM and INSTRCC programs. Dr. Yu shared valuable insights from 15 years of guiding students in documenting family migration histories.

In-Person

In-person events are hosted at venues such as the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden and Bentall Centre.  Most recently we co-hosted an event at the Italian Cultural Centre (ICC) in partnership with the ICC, Capilano University Faculty Association, and the United Nations Association in Canada to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (See article in April 1–15, 2025, Philippine Asian News Today – Vol. 27, No. 7).

On the Road

Field excursions have included the Sikh Heritage Museum in Abbotsford, the Royal BC Museum in Victoria for a special tour of the Broken Promises exhibit, and to Paldi—a unique, multicultural mill town on Vancouver Island where people of Indian, Chinese, Japanese, and European descent lived and worked in harmony despite widespread racism elsewhere in BC.

Museum

PCHC-MoM is a museum “without walls.” We envision our website as a growing digital museum.  Currently it features:

  • A collection of video migration stories (with more on the PCHC-MoM Society YouTube channel)
  • Links to multicultural educational materials that focus on trans-Pacific immigration and inter-cultural explorations.

Through these efforts, we aim to reflect and preserve the voices and experiences that shape Pacific Canadian identity.

Help us Grow!

Please consider joining, volunteering or donating to PCHC-MoM to support our mission.  We are always looking for individuals who share our passion for storytelling, inclusion, and community engagement and funding for our operations and events.

Our new office is at the Immigration Services Society of BC, 2610 Victoria Drive, Vancouver.

Please schedule an appointment in advance by emailing Co-President Stan de Mello at info@pchc-mom.ca as our in-person office hours are very limited.
