Vancouver, BC – The University of the Philippines Alumni Association in British Columbia (UPAABC) proudly celebrates receiving the prestigious 2025 UFCABC Distinguished Service Award, a testament to its unwavering commitment to education, cultural heritage, and humanitarian efforts within the Filipino-Canadian community.
The award—marking the **first time UFCABC has conferred this honour to an organization**—will be presented during the much-anticipated UFCABC Heritage Dinner on Saturday, June 7th, at the Continental Seafood Restaurant in Richmond. This milestone further solidifies UPAABC’s legacy of service and excellence.

A Tradition of Honour, Excellence, and Service
For 45 years, UPAABC has embodied the spirit of its alma mater—Honour, Excellence, and Service—uplifting communities, supporting scholars, and fostering cultural and professional growth. In 2024 alone, the association’s scholarship program helped 30 students across various UP campuses, with nine graduating with Latin honours—a remarkable testament to its dedication to education.
Yet, UPAABC’s influence reaches far beyond academics. Through initiatives like the **Giving Back Activity** at *The Door is Open* and supporting fundraising concerts such as Pinoy Band Aid, the association has actively responded to social needs, raised disaster relief funds, and fostered an enduring spirit of generosity and unity.
A Home for Filipino Professionals & Alumni
UPAABC has evolved into more than just a community group—it is a **home** for Filipino professionals and alumni. By spearheading mentorship programs, cultural showcases such as the Philippine Madrigal Singers Tour, and lectures in partnership with the McLuhan Fellowship, the association continues to offer spaces for learning, dialogue, and shared pride in heritage.
Looking Ahead: A Legacy of Impact
As UPAABC transitions into a new chapter, its Board for 2025–2026, led by President Stephen Andrada, is ready to expand the organization’s impact across British Columbia and beyond. **Building on the foundation set by past President Bella Balisi-Bevilacqua, **the new leadership remains dedicated to fostering growth, service, and unity in the Filipino-Canadian community.
Receiving the **2025 UFCABC Distinguished Service Award** is more than an acknowledgment of past achievements—it is a **celebration of collective vision, solidarity, and the legacy of Filipinos making a difference**—at home, in Canada, and around the world.
